Does Mississippi State basketball have a gun policy? Here's what coach Chris Jans had to say

After Mississippi State basketball survived Florida in overtime Thursday to advance to a quarterfinal game vs. Alabama, Bulldogs coach Chris Jans was asked if the program has a gun policy.

"That’s a good question. I’m not sure I know the correct answer to that right now," Jans responded.

The Bulldogs advanced in the SEC Tournament, 69-67 over Florida. The Bulldogs and Crimson Tide will face each other on Friday at noon on ESPN. Tolu Smith finished with a career-high 28 points and 12 rebounds.

The question to Jans came in the wake of former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles being charged with capital murder in connection with the Jan. 15 shooting death of Jamea Harris in Tuscaloosa. Miles and Michael Davis, who is not affiliated with UA, were both arrested and were denied bail in a Feb. 21 hearing.

It was in that hearing that a police investigator testified that Brandon Miller, SEC player and freshman of the year, brought the gun, which belonged to Miles, to the scene. On Feb. 22, Miller's attorney said in a statement that Miller never touched the gun and didn't know of any intention of it being used.

Neither Miller, a native of Antioch, Tennessee, nor teammate Jaden Bradley, who was also placed at the scene by the Feb. 21 testimony, have sat out any games. Miller spoke this week for the first time since the Feb. 21 hearing.

"I never lose sight of the fact that a family lost one of their loved ones that night," Miller said. "This whole situation is just really heartbreaking. Respectfully, that's all I'm going to be able to say on that."
