'Outer Banks' season 2 recap

  • John B. and Sarah made it to the Bahamas. They found the safe with the gold in a vacation house owned by Sarah's father, Ward Cameron (Charles Esten). After trying and failing to open it, John B. returned to find that Terrance (Terence Rosemore) had kidnapped Sarah.

  • John B. offered to split the loot with Terrance if he let Sarah go. Terrance agreed, and they returned to the house to try and open the safe. Their plans were thwarted when Ward received word that an intruder had broken into his home.

  • Sarah learned that Ward and her brother Rafe (Drew Starkey) were on their way to the Caribbean island to retrieve the gold, so the trio devised a plan to steal it. In the process, Rafe shot Sarah, forcing John B. to take her to a less-than-reputable doctor. Terrance was left with the gold.

  • The police eventually caught Terrance and seized the gold, only after John B. and Sarah snagged a piece for themselves.

  • Back on the mainland, the Pogues attempted to clear John B.'s name and prove Rafe was the one who murdered the sheriff in season 1. But before they could present the evidence to the authorities, Ward murdered their only witness and disposed of the murder weapon in a storm drain. The teens eventually retrieved the gun and proved their friend's innocence, thanks to Kiara.

  • After everyone returned to the Outer Banks, Rafe attempted to kill his sister. However, her ex-boyfriend Topper (Austin North) stopped him. To save Rafe and himself, Ward faked his death by setting his boat on fire.

  • We learned that Pope was a descendent of Denmark Tanney, a formerly enslaved person who survived the Royal Merchant shipwreck. Tanney left a message explaining that there was a key leading to the Cross of Santo Domingo, an expensive ancient artifact believed to have magical healing powers. After surviving another kidnapping attempt by an ill woman named Carla, Pope found the key in his great-grandmother's house.

  • Several clues led the Pogues to a church, where they found the Cross of Santo Domingo. Carla's half-brother and Rafe also arrived at the church to steal the cross. But Carla shot her brother after discovering the healing powers were a myth. Rafe escaped with the artifact.

So, how did this tale end?

  • Sarah was kidnapped again, this time by her own family and on a large boat. The Pogues made a plan to save her and the cross. They eventually escaped on a smaller boat with Sarah, as well as Cleo (someone John B. and Sarah met in the Bahamas), but left the cross in possession of Rafe and Ward. The misfit teens then landed on a small island they name "Poguelandia."

  • Carla visited a mysterious man in Barbados, who we learned was John B.'s father (WOAH!). This was huge, considering he had been presumed dead. He told her he could help her in exchange for helping his son.
