What is your passion? Passion is a feeling of emotion − a strong barely controllable emotion. Passion is the fuel that inspires and drives a person towards a specific goal. No matter how difficult the goal might be, it generates the desire and strength needed to overcome obstacles and challenges. Passion moves and motivates, it excites, and inspires a person to accomplish what might seem to be an impossible goal.

Some people have a passion for music, art, education, travelling, golf, sewing or attention. I have a friend who gardens and she is continually seeking different methods to grow vegetables, along with canning and sharing it with her family.

An example of a passion for good

Mother Teresa was a Roman Catholic nun who dedicated her life to caring for the destitute and dying in the slums of Calcutta. At the age of 12, she felt strongly the call of God. She wanted to be a missionary to spread the love of Christ.

At 18, she left her parental home in Skopjie, North Macedonia and joined the Sister of Lorett’s and went to India. She did not have a college education, just a passion. Through her selfless and compassionate work, Mother Teresa helped thousands and inspired millions.

She was determined to fulfill her calling.

She was a Nobel Peace Prize winner but refused the money she had won in the amount of $1,192.000 and asked that it be donated to the poor in India. Her goal was not money, but to care for the poor and destitute in Calcutta. Mother Teresa said and lived these words, “We cannot all do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”

Determining our passion

What are the most important things in your life? If you were to make a list and then strip away the items that are not really important, such as golf, music, clothes, traveling, vacation, a fine home, and vehicles, what is left? None of these things are bad, but if you think about what is really important in life, what would be your desired passion?

Let me suggest you ask yourself the following questions:

Are you satisfied with your passion for God and your relationship with him?

Matthew 22: 35-40 “Then one of the Pharisees which was a lawyer, ask him a question, tempting him, and saying Master which is the greatest commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and greatest commandment and the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

How do you want people to remember you?

What would others say you are passionate about?

How has God gifted you?

What do you want to accomplish in your relationships?

How have you seen God use you to influence others?

God has given you gifts and desires to give you a godly passion to make a difference in this life and the life of others. You may never go to India; you may never win the Nobel Peace Prize. You may never leave your state, but you have a mission in your family, neighborhood, community, and nation.

1 Chronicles 16:11 “Seek the Lord and His strength seek His face continually."

Do small things with great love because it can make all the difference in someone’s life.
