When does school start in Great Lansing? Here are the dates for your district

LANSING — With school bells right around the corner, children young and old are thinking about the potential hidden in another academic year as parents throughout the region consider the school supplies and support that could most help them excel.

The deadline for school readiness is little more than a week away for many students, since all but one school district in Greater Lansing has class start dates before Labor Day, which is Sept. 4 this year.

Webberville students return to class Aug. 14, and Dansville and Holt school buildings will officially open their doors to streams of young faces that same week.

Charlotte is the only school district starting after Labor Day, adhering to a Michigan State law passed in 2005. School districts wanting an earlier start must apply for special waivers, as most Lansing area district have done.

Webberville Community Schools: Aug. 14

Dansville Schools: Aug. 15

Holt Public Schools: Aug. 16 for all school buildings except Elliott and Wilcox elementary schools, which are opening later - Aug. 28 - due to school bond improvements.

Stockbridge Community Schools: Aug. 21

Grand Ledge Public Schools: Aug. 30

Bath Community Schools: Aug. 21

Portland Public Schools: Aug. 22 for children starting in new school buildings - district kindergartners and third-, sixth- and ninth-graders. Aug. 23 for all other grades.
