Two Sierra Vista women were indicted on charges relating to a fatal dog attack that left an elderly woman dead.

The women were identified as 43-year-old Shimira Sanches and 35-year-old Ashlee Sanches, the Sierra Vista police, fire and EMS shared on its Facebook page on Tuesday.

In an earlier post shared in June, officials said the incident took place on June 23 at a home near Meadowlark Drive and Calle Del Norte, after receiving reports of a dog attack.

Officers arrived to find a man being attacked by a dog in the yard of the home. The dog was killed by police and the man was taken to a Canyon Vista Medical Center in critical condition.

Soon after, another dog ran into the yard, which police killed as well. Officers then searched the area and found an injured woman in the alley between Meadowlark Drive and Calle Del Norte. Her dog was lying dead near her, officials said. She was also taken to the same hospital where she died.

The woman was identified as 84-year-old Helene Jackson.

It was not immediately clear how authorities connected the two to the dog attacks.

The two women were indicted on charges of manslaughter, negligent homicide, assault by a vicious animal, and aggressive dog violation and are scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 5, according to the Facebook post shared on Tuesday.

It was not immediately clear whether they were booked into jail.
