Dog food shipped to retailers in New England recalled due to potential salmonella contamination

A brand of dog food that was shipped to some retailers in New England has been recalled due to possible salmonella contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced.

The recall involves a single lot of Freshpet Select Fresh From the Kitchen Home Cooked Chicken Recipe with a sell by date of 10/29/22 and UPC code of 627975011673, the FDA said in a news release.

A small portion of the lot was inadvertently shipped to some Target stores and other select retailers in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, Vermont, and West Virginia.

Freshpet has received no reports of illness, injury, or adverse reaction.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the product and there is risk to humans, notably children, the elderly, and the immunocompromised, when handling contaminated products.
