Dog gets trapped in wastewater cleanout pipe 8 feet under Polk County home

POLK COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A dog was rescued after it went into a wastewater cleanout pipe and fell 8 feet down at a Polk County home earlier this week.

On Wednesday, fire rescue personnel called the Polk County Utilities Division to help after the small dog got trapped.

The cap to the clean out, which is the surface access port to the wastewater line running from the home to the public collection pipe, was missing and it’s believed the pup accessed the pipe this way and fell down to the collection pipe underground.

Crews dug down to the pipe, cut it, and removed the dog, who was safely returned to his owners at 12:36 a.m.

“This story illustrates the importance of keeping the clean out covered and secured. An open pipe which leads directly to the wastewater collection system poses a danger to pets and wildlife,” Polk County Government said.
