How to get your dog a low-cost vaccine or microchip through Stanislaus County Animal Services

Dog owners soon can get their furry friends vaccinated or microchipped at a low cost through Stanislaus County Animal Services Agency’s new vaccine program.

The program is designed to remove any financial barriers that may prevent dog owners from complying with the rabies vaccination law, said Vaughn Maurice, the agency’s executive director.

Here’s how to book an appointment, and how much the vaccines and microchips cost:

The vaccines included in the agency’s program are rabies, DHPP (distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, parvo) and Bortadella. Each vaccine costs $10.

Owners can also get their dogs microchipped for $20. Fees must be paid with a debit or credit card.

In Stanislaus County, it is not only a matter of health but also a legal requirement for all dogs to be vaccinated against rabies, Maurice said. The other vaccines are not mandated.

“By offering the vaccine at a minimal cost of $10, the agency aims to encourage a higher rate of vaccination within the community, ensuring that a larger number of dogs are protected against rabies,” Maurice said.

Booking an appointment in Modesto

Appointments are required for the low-cost, drive-thru clinic, Maurice said. They can be booked through animal services’ website.

The clinic will be held June 21 and June 28, though Maurice said the agency will add at least one date each month for the foreseeable future.

He said the clinic is open to everyone, even those outside the agency’s service area.

There are 18 open spots left at the 8 a.m. appointment time and 15 open spots at 9 a.m. on June 21, as of Thursday morning. For June 28, there are 31 spots open at 8 a.m. and 28 spots left at 9 a.m.

All dogs must be a on leash and the owner must be present with a valid California ID.
