Dog piece a Sculpture Walk winner

Feb. 17—The people have spoken: "Rocky" is the top dog with voters for the 2022-23 St. Joseph Sculpture Walk.

The sculpture, which is located at the corner of Felix and North Seventh streets, is the walk's People's Choice Award winner.

The artist, Carl Weiss of Springfield, Nebraska, created the piece using his dog as a model. "Rocky" is made up of 560 linear feet of rebar, twisted, cut and welded to create the finished piece. Weiss previously spent 15 years in the construction and remodeling world.

"I was given a dog about a year before I went through a tough time with cancer. He has been a blessing, so I thought it only fitting to recreate him for this art show," Cox said. "It's a fun piece, but ironically, my dog doesn't like 'Rocky' the sculpture."

The sculpture can be purchased for $4,500. For information on buying "Rocky" and other sculptures from the 2022-23 walk, contact the Allied Arts Council at 816-233-0231, email teresa.fankhauser@stjoearts.org or stop in the office at 118 S. Eighth St.

Sculptures will be de-installed during May to make way for the 2023-24 Sculpture Walk.
