GRAND HAVEN — A new movie coming to West Michigan will make a difference for Harbor Humane Society.

The West Olive-based animal shelter announced on social media a new film — called “The Year of the Dog" — will open at the GQT Grand Haven 9 on Feb. 24th.

“The story is one of the human-animal connection, and how it can truly save lives,” Harbor Humane wrote. “The doggo actor in the film is a real-life rescue named Caleb.”

Five percent of all ticket sales will be donated to Harbor Humane in honor of Caleb.

The movie follows Matt, a loner alcoholic who hits rock bottom. Matt fights to maintain sobriety for 30 days to honor his mother’s dying wish, to visit her in hospice sober, according to IMDB.

Matt’s AA sponsor, Fred, offers him a place to stay on his farm, where Matt meets Yup’ik, a stray Husky. Although their relationship starts off rocky, Matt and Yup’ik ultimately connect and learn to live life one day at a time.
