Dog Siblings Reunite to Celebrate 13th Birthday 'Bark Mitzvah'

Dog siblings Benny and Peanut reunited to celebrate their 13th birthdays with a shared “bark mitzvah,” in Merrick, New York, on Tuesday, August 2, according to Benny’s owner Melissa Goldberg.

Goldberg told Storyful that Benny and Peanut were born in the same litter in 2009, but ended up with different owners. Nine months later the siblings and their owners ran into each other at a dog park and noticed the pair looked identical. Since then, the dogs and their owners have gathered each year to celebrate the siblings’ birthdays as seen on Goldberg’s social media.

This year was a special milestone as the pair, now 13, joined to celebrate their “bark mitzvah” — a play on the Jewish coming-of-age ceremony. Video provided by Melissa Goldberg shows the two dogs wagging their tails as people sing happy birthday. In the video, Benny is sporting a yarmulke and a bandana reading “it’s my Bark Mitzvah.”

Goldberg said through the years of annual celebrations and the special bond between the dogs, Peanut’s owners became “extended family.” Credit: Melissa Goldberg via Storyful
