Feb. 23—A dog inside of a house that caught fire Monday night in the Venersborg area east of Battle Ground survived despite being trapped for about an hour.

Clark County Fire District 3 crews were dispatched at 7:07 p.m. to the 23900 block of Northeast 209th Street for a report of a residential structure fire.

Crews arrived to find the front porch of the home ablaze, Clark County Deputy Fire Marshal Rick Serls said. The occupants had already evacuated from the house, he said.

The dog was hiding under a bed in a room toward the rear of the house and eventually made it safely outside. The room saw the least amount of fire damage, but the blaze burned the majority of the house, Serls said.

It took about an hour to get the fire under control, according to the fire marshal.

The cause is still under investigation.
