Dog wandered 335 miles from Nevada home. Now he can’t stop giving kisses after reunion
A 9-year-old Chihuahua-terrier mix somehow wandered from his Nevada yard in early July
Weeks later, Ryder’s owner, Debbie Ferris, was “ecstatic — and very surprised” to learn the Las Vegas pup had been found 335 miles away outside a Ross store in El Cajon, California, on July 17, according to a July 20 news release from the San Diego Humane Society.
Ferris packed her bags “right away” and made her way to pick up her “beloved pup” alongside Ryder’s “aunt” Darlene Hardee and his best dog friend, Blondie, the nonprofit said.
A video the nonprofit shared on Instagram shows Ryder’s reunion with Ferris, wherein he seemingly can’t stop giving her kisses.
“Mamma missed you. Where’d you go, baby? Huh? Where you been?” Ferris says while holding Ryder tightly in her arms, the video shows.
No one quite knows how Ryder made his way across state lines, the nonprofit wrote on Twitter.
“We are so happy this story has a happy ending — all thanks to a microchip with up-to-date contact information,” the nonprofit said.
El Cajon is about 15 miles northeast of San Diego.
