Dogs fall down 80-foot cliff on a Kentucky hiking trail, rescuers say

One dog was killed and another dog was rescued the two fell 80 feet down a cliff during a hiking accident in Powell County Monday, according to the Wolfe County Search & Rescue Team.

The incident happened on the Pinch-em tight trail, according to the search and rescue team. The search and rescue team said the dogs got ahead of their owners and fell from a cliff line. The team said it’s unknown why the dogs fell.

The dogs’ owners were able to get down the cliff unharmed but were unable to locate the dogs, according to the search and rescue team. The team joined in on the search after receiving a 911 call. Responders setup a steep angle rope system to recover the dogs after they were found.

The surviving dog was checked out by a vet clinic and suffered no injuries.

“It was obvious these pet owners loved their dogs dearly and we send our condolences for their loss,” the search and rescue team said in a Facebook post.
