New Bern will soon have a new vacation destination for your dog or cat.

All American Pet Resorts, a small Michigan-based franchise, will soon offer doggy daycare, boarding, training, grooming and other pet-related services at 4146 Dr. MLK Jr. Boulevard, in the former home of Ann Lynn's Clothing Apparel.

Jennifer Bassler, co-owner of the pet resort, said the 6,000 square-foot facility is expected to open in the fall and they will begin hiring employees in about two to three months. Construction is set to begin within a month. She said building renovations will cost about $700,000.

"We chose New Bern because we're very familiar with the area," Bassler said. "We just really love New Bern and think it'll be a wonderful place to relocate to... we definitely see a need on the Southwest side of New Bern as it's growing so much."

Bassler said she signed the lease for the building last week and will manage the facility with her adult son. Staff will be onsite 24-hours, 365 days a year. In addition to boarding services, the facility will provide pet health and wellness checks. There will also be a 24-hour webcam available for owners to spy on their dogs.

All American Pet Resorts primarily boards dogs, but the New Bern location plans to have a cattery for overnight or daycare services for cats, she said.

The franchise was founded in 2005 and is headquartered in Novi, Michigan. There are nine locations in Michigan, Florida, Texas and New Jersey. The company is known for its all-suite environment free of cages, crates and kennels.

"I'm excited that my family will have the opportunity to work together to provide a very important service," Bassler said. "We all love our animals. In every family, the dog or the cat is usually the center of the family, and we will make sure that the animals that we take care of will be part of our family."
