Dogs are stealing hearts on Tinder with new adoption feature for National Dog Week

You’re swiping aimlessly on Tinder, hoping to find your dream match, when suddenly he pops up on the screen.

He’s got luscious blond hair with deep brown eyes and an impeccable smile. His bio says he loves to cuddle, hang out with his friends and play outside.

He’s perfect. He’s…a dog?

From Sept. 18 to 24, your Tinder might be peppered with photos of pups looking to get adopted for National Dog Week, the platform announced. It’s not just a benefit for the shelter dogs, though — the feature aims to help attract animal lovers to each other, too.

People are 60% more likely to swipe right on a person with dogs in their profile photos, according to Tinder — so the dogs can help you get a leg up in your love life this week.

“This National Dog Week, Tinder is better able to help people find love AND help dogs in need find new homes - both looking for their perfect match,” Melissa Hobley, Tinder’s CMO, said in a news release. “Being able to express your common interests is so important for sparking new connections, so we wanted to bring our members even more fun ways to find someone new, whether that be a new dog park pal or a stepparent for their furry friend.”

The program will include dogs from shelters in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Houston, according to Tinder. Here’s how to participate:

Tinder users view adoptable dogs in their region on their Tinder card stack or visit rescuematches.com.

Once a user finds a dog they want to take a photo with, the platform will automatically create a photo of you and the shelter pup.

Take your photo and upload it onto your Tinder profile to help boost the pup’s chances of finding a forever home, and reeling in fellow animal-lovers who may be tempted to swipe right on you.

“The campaign is sure to cause smiles and even a few ‘what a good boys’ among members,” Tinder said.

Visit Tinder’s rescue match page for more information on the program and how to get started.
