KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Dollar General plans to build a new store in the heart of Kingsport’s Lynn Garden community.
The city recently issued construction permits for the new project.
According to construction plans, the new store will be located at 1221 Lynn Garden Drive on the former Lynn Garden post office and Miner’s Exchange Bank property, an L-shaped plot bordering Walker Street to the south and Lynn Garden Drive to the west next to the Roadrunner convenience store.
The former post office and bank building and the old bank drive-thru will be demolished to make way for a new 10,640-square-foot Dollar General Market.
Plans show the new store will be built on the northern side of the property, with 13 parking spaces in front of the store on the Lynn Garden Drive side and a larger parking lot with 23 spaces on the Walker Street side. The lots will be accessible from both Lynn Garden Drive and Walker Street.
A Dollar General spokesperson told News Channel 11 on Friday that the company is finalizing its “due diligence phase” for the new store.
“Based on our current timeline, we anticipate to break ground in the coming weeks,” the spokesperson said.
There is already a Dollar General store located on Lynn Garden Drive, about a mile south of where the new one will be built. The spokesperson said the existing store located at 704 Lynn Garden Drive will remain open at this time.
The new store will be built by Blackburn Construction of Oxford, Mississippi.
