A new Dollar General Market store has opened in the Midlands. Here’s what to know

A version of Dollar General with more grocery options has opened in the Midlands

Dollar General Market recently opened in the 9200 block of Columbia Highway in Leesville. That’s less than a half-mile east of the Saluda traffic circle at Highways 378 and 391.

There previously was a traditional Dollar General across the road from the new store. It closed to make way for the larger Dollar General Market.

One of the key aspects of Dollar General Market locations, as compared to regular Dollar General stores, is that they have expanded grocery options, including a selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as meat, cheese and numerous other offerings.

Bananas, potatoes, onions, oranges, limes, lettuce, ground beef, chicken and ribs were just some of the items available during a recent visit to the Dollar General Market.

There’s no shortage of discount or “dollar” stores on the Columbia Highway near the Saluda traffic circle. A Family Dollar/Dollar Tree combo store which combines those two traditional discount brands under one roof — opened last fall less than quarter-mile from where the new Dollar General Market is.

Dollar General continues to be a dominant force in the discount store arena. There are more than 19,000 locations across 47 states, per company statistics, and the company had $38 billion in sales in 2022.
