News and highlights from the Dolphins’ joint practice with the Atlanta Falcons on Wednesday in Miami Gardens:

Receiver Jaylen Waddle left practice, under his own power, with what appeared to be an injury or discomfort on the right side of his body, near his waist. It could have been in the rib or torso area, but it wasn’t clear what specifically was bothering Waddle.

Waddle was on the ground for about four minutes after making a catch. It was unclear if he injured himself on the fall or when a Falcons defender made contact with him as he fell. He walked into the facility holding his side in his waist area.

“I did see that. I couldn’t see what had happened,” quarterback Tua Tagovailoa said after the joint practice. “I know he made the play, but I think Waddle has probably had one of the best camps on our team this year. And I think it really started in OTAs. The first day he came, he showed up and he was out there.

“It’s kind of unfortunate to see something like that happen. I hope that it’s just a couple of days, whatever. I hope he gets better.”

Waddle led the NFL in yards per reception last season.

Meanwhile, fullback Alec Ingold left practice and walked inside the facility with a trainer. It was unclear what happened to him.

And running back Jeff Wilson Jr. stopped practicing after sustaining, or re-aggravating, a hand injury after a play in which he fumbled. He was flexing his left hand, and a trainer examined it. That same hand sidelined him for a few minutes of Saturday’s scrimmage before he returned with two fingers taped together.

Cornerback Justin Bethel was examined by a trainer after diving for an interception. The nature of the injury was unclear, but he was able to walk without assistance.

The Dolphins’ offense again delivered an underwhelming performance except during red zone drills, when Miami scored several touchdowns. Among Dolphins quarterbacks, Tua Tagovailoa threw the only interception.

The Falcons had four sacks (one permitted by Austin Jackson), and the Dolphins’ running game had several plays blown up, including one by Myles Gaskin that lost 3 yards. The offensive line generated very little push.

The Dolphins’ best running plays were a 10-yard run by De’Von Achane and a run by receiver Freddie Swain, who’s a long shot to make the team. Salvon Ahmed had a 7-yard TD run in red zone drills.

Wilson fumbled after a 5-yard run, and the Falcons recovered.

Keep in mind that Raheem Mostert didn’t practice Wednesday (more on that below).

In the passing game, Tagovailoa’s accuracy wasn’t as sharp as usual, and he didn’t get a lot of help, with Cedrick Wilson Jr. dropping an easy pass. Tua completed less than half his passing attempts on Wednesday.

Tagovailoa was errant on a screen, threw away two passes under heavy pressure and saw a pass to Robbie Chosen broken up.

Tagovailoa’s accuracy improved initially when the Dolphins moved practice indoors for the final 30 minutes. He connected with Braxton Berrios for 15 yards, then hit Durham Smythe for 10 yards.

But Tagovailoa then overthrew River Cracraft in the end zone. Tagovailoa’s short pass to Ahmed was broken up by a Falcons linebacker and Tagovailoa’s pass to Berrios was broken up by Dee Alford.

Tagovailoa, under some pressure, then made a bad throw, with no Dolphins player near, and it was picked off by Jaylinn Hawkins.

In red zone drills, Tagovailoa was solid, including a TD to Julian Hill.

Tagovailoa also scrambled for a 10-yard gain on one play in 11-on-11 drills.

Mike White had a couple nice throws — including a 14-yarder to Swain.

In red zone drills, White threw a TD to a wide open Hill on a busted coverage. A White-to-Elijah Higgins completion was stopped at the 1-yard line. White then threw a TD to tight end Eric Saubert, who was wide open in the corner of the end zone.

Skylar Thompson was very good in the second half of practice, throwing a 25-yard TD pass to Achane, who shook free in the end zone for the best offensive play of the day on the game-winning final play of the day.

Earlier, Thompson threw a 10-yard TD to Chosen, who had come on strong recently.

Defensively, former Miami Hurricanes edge player Mitchell Agude had another sack.. Rookie cornerback Keidron Smith, who has had a tough camp, was called for pass interference on one play but also intercepted a Logan Woodside pass and returned it for a touchdown....

Justin Bethel stripped a Falcons runner on a reception, and Elijah Campbell picked up the fumble and returned it for a touchdown. But the referee said the pass was incomplete.

Bethel then intercepted a pass from Taylor Heinicke, was shaken up on the play and walked to the sideline on his own power. A trainer looked at him on the sideline....

Jaelan Phillips had at least two sacks... Rookie Randy Charlton deflected a Falcons pass.... David Long Jr. had a tackle for loss....

Participation report: Mostert did not participate, possibly for rest reasons. He was dressed, had no sleeve over any body part and was walking fine...

Christian Wilkins didn’t participate in team drills for undisclosed reasons....

Also out, besides Mostert and Wilkins, were several injured players: cornerbacks Jalen Ramsey and Keion Crossen, safety Ethan Bonner, receiver Braylon Sanders and the two players on PUP — Nik Needham and Tanner Conner.

Brandon Jones, working his way back from last October’s ACL Injury, was in a red noncontact jersey. He has been participating in about 12 plays per day in team drills.

Tempers flared on two occasions — one involving Chosen and Falcons cornerback Micah Abernathy (Tyreek Hill injected himself into that dust-up) and another involving several Dolphins starting offensive linemen (including Robert Hunt) and Falcons defensive linemen. Ingold broke up something of a spat between Connor Williams and Daniel Onyemata.

No punches appeared to be thrown.

A Tagovailoa pass bounced off Dee Alford’s shoulder pads (it could have been an interception) and Tyreek Hill caught it off the ricochet for a touchdown.... White connected with Chosen on a impressive slant for a TD, beating Lucas Denis...

Noah Igbinoghene did a great job hounding Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts on one play, forcing a Desmond Ridder incompletion...

Salvon Ahmed dropped a pass in the flight from White... Thompson hit Braxton Berrios for a TD.... Thompson couldn’t connect with Chris Coleman on an end zone throw....
