Dolphins-Eagles Joint Practice 1 Report: Wednesday

MIAMI GARDENS — The Dolphins and Eagles connected on Wednesday for a joint practice at Baptist Health Training Complex.

Miami head coach Mike McDaniel and Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirriani are the offensive play-callers for their teams.

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts were teammates at Alabama.

Miami receiver Jaylen Waddle and Philadelphia receiver DeVonta Smith were teammates at Alabama.

The Dolphins once selected tight end Mike Gesicki over Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert. Gesicki caught Goedert after a slower start to his career.

But now there are questions about how Gesicki fits into McDaniel's offense.

Here are some things we noticed Wednesday:

* Jaelan Phillips is wearing the orange jersey as the player of the last practice.

* Among those not spotted suited up for practice: linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel, cornerback Keion Crossen, linebacker Brennan Scarlett, linebacker Calvin Munson and tight end Tanner Conner.

* Jaylen Waddle was suited up for Dolphins practice but he did not participate. McDaneil has said he's being very cautious with Waddle's unspecified injury.

* Tua opened 1-on-1's with a long touchdown completion to Tyreek Hill. Eagles cornerback Darius Slay pulled up limp on the play.

* Teddy Bridgewater hit Erik Ezukanma for a long touchdown in 1-on-1s.

* Former Dolphins coach Jimmy Johnson is in attendance.

* Cedrick Wilson has made a nice contested catch as well as a sideline top-tip catch. He is a strong number three receiver.

* Teddy Bridgewater threaded the middle with a nice long completion to tight end Cethan Carter in 7-on-7's.

* Mike Gesicki was attended to by a trainer. He appeared to have some upper-body discomfort though he did not appear to be in serious pain. Gesicki later returned.

* Tua Tagovailoa led a long touchdown drive in 11-on-11's, capped by his own touchdown scramble.

* Trent Sherfield is on this roster. He's Miami's fourth receiver, with Erik Ezukanma probably fifth at the moment.

* Tyreek Hill catches everything. He has been Miami's best offensive player this summer. And safety Jevon Holland has been their best defensive player.

* Eric Rowe had an athletic pass break-up.

* A Reid Sinnett pass was tipped and intercepted by Kader Kohou. One play earlier, Clayton Fejedelem recorded an interception.

* DeVonta Smith caught a 31-yarder over Nik Needham, who was nonetheless called for defensive interference.

* Emmanuel Ogbah sacked Jalen Hurts.

* Brandon Jones blew up an outside run for a loss of 5.

* Melvin Ingram, who had an active day as a pass rusher and in coverage, made a diving attempt to nearly intercept Hurts. Ingram could be in an orange No. 6 Thursday.
