For the second time in a week, the Dolphins have extended the contract of a potential 2024 free agent.

Fullback Alec Ingold on Thursday agreed to a three-year extension that could be worth $17.2 million, a source confirmed. He’s now signed through 2026. He’s now the NFL’s highest paid fullback.

Ingold joins defensive lineman Zach Sieler as Dolphins who received extensions this week, keeping them out of the free agent market next March. Sieler’s three-year deal is worth as much as $37 million, with $20 million guaranteed.

Ingold, an effective blocker, appeared in 17 games and started 14 for the Dolphins last season, rushing six times for 8 yards and catching 15 passes for 105 yards (a 7.5 average).

The Dolphins view him as an ideal fit in Mike McDaniel’s offense.

He played 40 percent of the Dolphins’ offensive snaps and 30 percent of the team’s special teams snaps last season, per Pro Football Reference.

Ingold was set to make $2.7 million this season, with a $3.7 million cap hit.

Among Dolphins entering the final year of their contracts: defensive linemen Christian Wilkins and Raekwon Davis and offensive linemen Connor Williams, Robert Hunt and Austin Jackson.

THIS AND THAT

Five Dolphins weren’t spotted during the media viewing portion of practice: receiver Tyreek Hill (excused absence), left tackle Terron Armstead (leg), running back Salvon Ahmed (expected back shortly), cornerback Justin Bethel (leg) and safety Elijah Campbell (knee).

Armstead told NFL Network that he hopes to be back for the Sept. 10 opener at the Chargers. Mike McDaniel said Campbell — who was injured in the preseason finale against Jacksonville — is expected back at some point in the first quarter of the season.

Running back De’Von Achane (shoulder) again practiced in a red noncontact jersey.

Running back Raheem Mostert said he increased his weight from 205 to 215 because “I wanted to bulk up and have durability. I’m running a lot stronger.”

The Dolphins bypassed signing Dalvin Cook and opted not to offer a first-round pick to the Colts for Jonathan Taylor.

“We have one of the best running back rooms in the league,” Mostert said. “De’Von brings a dynamic to the offense with his speed. Chris Brooks… is an unbelievable pass catcher. Salvon [Ahmed] is like a twin image of myself.”

Jeff Wilson Jr. was placed on injured reserve Thursday, sidelining him for at least four games. He has two injuries — one to his midsection and another with a finger.
