Dolphins' Raheem Mostert returns to NSB hometown with truckload of Christmas toys

Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert dropped in on his hometown of New Smyrna Beach Tuesday, and he was bearing gifts.

Mostert, a former standout at New Smyrna High, delivered a truckload of toys courtesy of his “Waves of Success Foundation,” which he and his wife Devon recently started. The Foundation held a toy-drive event Monday night in Davie, and brought the goods north Tuesday.

Via Twitter, Mostert said, "We did it! We filled an entire box truck!" He also thanked law firm Morgan & Morgan for aiding the effort.

New NSB Mayor Fred Cleveland joined the Tuesday giveaway and proclaimed Dec. 20, 2022, as Raheem Mostert Day in the city.

It’s the second time Mostert has received that honor. The first came on the heels of his record-breaking effort in the 2020 NFC Championship Game, when he rushed for 220 yards for the San Francisco 49ers in their win over Green Bay.

Mostert joined the Dolphins this year and has led the team in rushing with 746 yards, while averaging 4.9 per carry. He had his best 2022 game this past week in a loss to the Buffalo Bills, gaining 136 yards on 17 carries.

Mostert, who graduated from NSB High in 2011 and played college ball at Purdue, surfed the local beaches as a kid, which accounts for the “Waves” as part of his foundation’s name. Along with playing football, he was a track-and-field standout at both NSB (state champ in 300-meter hurdles) and Purdue (four Big Ten sprint championships).

As an undrafted free agent out of Purdue in 2015, he was signed and cut by six teams over his first two NFL seasons before sticking with the Niners in 2016. He missed half of the 2020 season and all but one game of 2021 due to injuries. He signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins for $2.125 million.

Mostert and the Dolphins play at home Sunday, Christmas Day, against the Green Bay Packers.
