Dolphins Pro Bowl cornerback Jalen Ramsey appeared to injure his left knee late in Thursday’s training camp practice and left on a cart, casting a pall on Day 2 of Dolphins training camp.

Ramsey grabbed his left knee after defending Tyreek Hill on a passing play late in practice; the two got tangled up. Ramsey walked off the field, sat down and stayed on the ground for 10 minutes while being examined by trainers and talking to teammates and coach Mike McDaniel.

He was able to get to his feet to stand for about 30 seconds and then took a few steps to get on the cart (without assistance) but couldn’t seem to put much weight on his leg. Practice ended moments later.

Ramsey broke up a Tua Tagovailoa deep throw to Jaylen Waddle earlier in the day.

Ramsey was the Dolphins’ marquee offseason acquisition. If Ramsey misses time, Cam Smith and Kader Kohou would be the likely next options on the boundary.

Coach Mike McDaniel didn’t address the media on Thursday and there wasn’t any initial team comment on the injury. Safety Jevon Holland spoke to Ramsey before he was carted off but said he didn’t know the exact injury.

UPDATE: Ramsey will miss at least six weeks with a meniscus injury that will require surgery and likely will be out until December, per NFL Net’s Ian Rapoport. Doctors will decide, during the procedure, whether to repair or remove the meniscus. A repair is more likely, according to NFL Net, and that would sideline him for several months.

Here’s what else happened on Day 2 of training camp:

▪ Skylar Thompson and Braxton Berrios had the play of the day: a 68-yard passing play.

But we start this recap with the defense, because this was a good day for several young defenders as they transition into Vic Fangio’s system.

Cornerback Kader Kohou, coming off a strong rookie season, showed great anticipation in picking off a Tua Tagovailoa pass in 7 on 7 drills, on a throw intended for Tyreek Hill.

Cam Smith knocked away a Mike White pass to Braylon Sanders in 7 on 7 drills. That was Smith’s third pass breakup in two days.

Rookie safety Ethan Bonner made two impressive pass breakups, including one on Hill.

Mitchell Agude beat fullback John Lovett for a sack on Skylar Thompson. Agude, the undrafted rookie player from UM, consistently got pressure on the quarterback in the offseason program. He has a real chance to make the 53.

Rookie linebacker Aubrey Miller stopped De’Von Achane for a two yard gain. Miller has had a strong first two days of camp.

Second-year linebacker Channing Tindall broke up a Thompson pass in traffic.

Second-year edge player Cameron Goode had a would-be sack.

Defensive lineman Jaylen Twyman, a long shot to make the roster, stuffed Myles Gaskin on a run and De’Von Achane on another.

▪ Tagovailoa finished Thursday with the one interception (in 7 on 7s), a 30-yard sideline completion to Hill (who wasn’t closely covered on the play) in 11 on 11 drills and several short to intermediate completions.

Two of the deeper throws ended with the Ramsey PBU and a Hill drop. Erik Ezukanma dropped a pass in which he dove to the ground.

▪ Mike White’s performance since becoming a Dolphin has been uneven, much like his career. He makes sharp, accurate throws at times but there are also some head-shaking moments.

On Thursday, he threw behind Elijah Higgins on one pass and badly overthrew another. But he also delivered a nifty 20-yard strike to Ezukanma.

▪ Thompson made three terrific throws in a five-minute stretch - one to Robbie Chosen for a 15-yard completion, another for 35 yards to Braylon Sanders, and the 68-yard TD to Berrios, who ran the last 30 yards or so.

Also during the five-minute stretch of Thompson deep throws, he slightly underthrew Hill on a 40-yard bomb; Hill came back for the ball but Bonner knocked it out of his hands.

Berrios beat rookies Cam Smith and Keidron Smith on the long passing play, Miami’s only TD of the day. (Keep in mind that the Dolphins haven’t run red zone drills in the first two days of practice, so a flurry of TDs isn’t expected.)

▪ Jeff Wilson Jr. had two runs for chunk gains, and Raheem Mostert shook off Jerome Baker for a sizable gain.

▪ Linebacker Jaelan Phillips, who appeared to injure his ankle slightly during Wednesday’s practice before returning to team drills, did not participate in team drills on Thursday. He was seen walking on the field early in practice on Thursday but then moved into the training facility.

Also not participating Thursday: receiver Freddie Swain and defensive backs Trill Williams, Keion Crossen and Brandon Jones. The reasons for the absences of Swain and Crossen weren’t immediately known.

For Jones and Williams, this could simply be a management issue as they return from torn ACLs. Both practiced Wednesday for the first time since sustaining those knee injuries.

Among the four players on the active/physically unable to perform list, three were spotted observing on the field: Nik Needham (Achilles’), Terron Armstead (offseason arthroscopic knee surgery) and Isaiah Wynn (undisclosed summer football injury). The fourth player on PUP, tight end Tanner Conner, hasn’t been seen on the field so far in camp. Armstead seems to be moving around well.

▪ Rookie tight end Higgins dropped a Thompson throw 15 yards downfield. The rookie tight ends are struggling early on in camp. Undrafted Julian Hill had a drop Wednesday.

▪ Zach Sieler and Josiah Bronson shared a sack on Tagovailoa... Fullback Alec Ingold wore the orange jersey, signifying that coaches named him the best player at Wednesday’s practice... Linebacker David Long had a tackle for loss on Myles Gaskin.
