The Dolphins are signing former New England Patriots offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn to a one-year deal, a league source confirmed to the Miami Herald on Sunday, adding possible competition and depth ahead of organized team activities.

Wynn, who turns 28 in December, is a 2018 first-round pick who has started 40 games over four seasons. The 6-2 and 310-pound Wynn played three seasons at left tackle but started at right tackle in 2022 and also logged snaps at guard. Injuries, though, have limited his time on the field. He missed his rookie year because of a torn Achilles and has missed 23 of a possible 66 games since 2019.

The Dolphins have been searching for veteran options for an offensive line that dealt with myriad injuries in 2022, hosting Cameron Fleming on a visit last month. The team also hosted other veterans who did not have to be reported on the NFL’s transaction wire.

Despite early-career struggles and injuries, the “expectation” is that Austin Jackson will be the team’s starting right tackle, general manager Chris Grier said last month. But the team did not exercise Jackson’s fifth-year option and he could compete with Wynn for a starting spot.

Wynn is the second outside free agent offensive lineman the Dolphins have added this offseason, joining Dan Feeney. Miami also re-signed offensive tackles Geron Christian and Kendall Lamm and selected former Michigan tackle Ryan Hayes in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Dolphins are set to receive $13.6 million from the post-June 1 cut of cornerback Byron Jones and could opt to use the cap space for another addition to a roster that stands at 88 players after the signing of Wynn.
