Dolphins’ signing of WR Will Fuller came down to having most interest

The prospect of free agency as an NFL player can be an overwhelming one. There are so many factor to take into account in order to find the proper fit for any specific player — there’s finances, state income tax, location, playing opportunities, competitiveness of the teams, style of play, coaches and much, much more.

Getting lost in that process seems like it would be all too easy.

But for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Will Fuller V, who signed with the team in March, the prospect of choosing a team was rather simple: Fuller wanted to go somewhere where he was wanted and felt that interest. And, as he shared with the South Florida media on Friday, the Dolphins made their interests known better than anyone back in March.

“This is my first free agency, so I just took it as I wanted to go to a team that wanted me. The Dolphins showed the most interest. That’s why I chose the Dolphins,” said Fuller.

“And of course, I know we have a great team here and we can do great things. Ever since I’ve been here, it’s been great. I love the culture here. It’s just been easy to be here; and like I said, I’ve been in the building as much as I can. I enjoy being here so I’m happy the Dolphins decided to take a chance on me.”

Given Fuller’s penchant for explosive plays and quick-strike touchdowns, we have a feeling that the Dolphins and their fanbase are going to be happy that the team took a chance on Fuller, too. Fuller is lightning in a bottle on the outside — everything the Dolphins didn’t have in 2020. So for Miami to have the self awareness of what they lacked offensively but not dramatically overpay in order to secure Fuller’s services, the team should be applauded. Showing interest but not being desperate is a fine line to walk — but it is one that Chris Grier and the Dolphins managed to find back in March when wooing Fuller to South Florida.
