MIAMI GARDENS — The Dolphins were back on the practice field Wednesday with the defense hoping for a repeat of its previous practice and the offense determined to put Tuesday's workout in the rearview mirror.

The quarterbacks were intercepted six times Tuesday, including three thrown by Tua Tagovailoa, but he again was without Jaylen Waddle.

Waddle is day to day as a precautionary measure, coach Mike McDaniel said.

Observations from the workout:

* Tagovailoa opened team drills with a completion of about 20 yards to Tyreek Hill.

* Sony Michel gained the edge for a healthy gain on the ground.

* Another high snap by Conner Williams preceded a Tagovailoa pass that was batted down by the line.

* Hill, coming back to help his QB, caught another 20-yarder from Tagovailoa.

* Andrew Van Ginkel was among a group that stuffed Salvon Ahmed, who was then stopped cold by John Jenkins.

* Jevon Holland intercepted a Tagovailoa pass over the middle. At the end of the play, Alec Ingold and Christian Wilkins had a brief dust-up.

* Teddy Bridgewater found Hill for a nice gain.

* Preston Williams dropped a pass from Skylar Thompson.

* In a red-zone drill, Tagovailoa found Hill for a 17-yard gain -- against Xavien Howard, no less.

* Wilkins batted down a Tagovailoa pass.

*  Tagovailoa, trying to find Durham Smythe from the 2, was intercepted by Holland again.

* Benito Jones broke in on Bridgewater to force an incompletion (if not a sack).

* Tagovailoa hit Trent Sherfield over the middle for a gain of about 25.

* Elijah Hamilton recorded a takeaway.

* Noah Igbinoghene, who has had a tough camp, had a nice pass break-up against Hill.

* Bridgewater, showing pretty touch, dropped a pass into Mike Gesicki's hands over the reach of the defense.

* Ingold dropped a Thompson pass.

* Play of day: Tagovailoa tried to find Hill deep, but Holland leaped and batted the ball away, a play so athletic that even Hill slapped his hand on the way back to the huddle. Holland let out a yelp as he celebrated.

* Guests included Heat coach Erik Spoelstra and Jake Paul.

* Smythe had the honors, wearing an orange No. 81 as the practice player of the day off Tuesday's workout.
