Dolphins training camp report (Day 5): Defense wins goal-line battle

Raekwon Davis had his jersey torn during the goal-line portion of Saturday’s Miami Dolphins training camp practice and the rookie finished the session with a numberless jersey.

Even without a number it was hard to miss the former Alabama standout Miami selected in the second round of this year’s NFL draft because he’s a hulking figure who has the potential to wreck running lanes.

At times Davis’ motor has been idle during the first week of practices, but the rookie got into gear during Saturday’s goal-line work, consistently pushing Miami’s centers into the backfield, and stuffing a few runs.

While Ryan Fitzpatrick did scramble for a first down, Davis and his fellow defensive linemen were stingy when it came to allowing Miami’s tailbacks into the end zone during the session that features the offense starting at the 5-yard line or closer.
