News, notes and highlights from practice 5 of Dolphins training camp on Monday in Miami Gardens:

▪ Dolphins defensive backs certainly held their own in pass-heavy 11 on 11 work on Monday. And the front seven was again disruptive.

Justin Bethel stepped in front of Erik Ezukanma to intercept a throw by Skylar Thompson to open team drills. It was Thompson’s first interception in five camp practices; Mike White hasn’t thrown one.

That was first of several good plays by Dolphins defenders.

Linebacker Duke Riley broke up a Mike White pass to Julian Hill.

Xavien Howard and Jevon Holland knocked away a pass by Tua Tagovailoa.

Tino Ellis broke up another pass by Thompson.

Rookie Cam Smith had an impressive break-up of a Mike White pass to Julian Hill.

Meanwhile, after Elijah Higgins caught a 25-yard pass from Thompson, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio threw a flag, alleging Higgins pushed off Bethel.

Meanwhile, Zach Sieler beat Dan Feeney for a sack, Bradley Chubb beat Durham Smythe for a sack. Chubb had another sack later in 11 on 11 drills.

And Jaelan Phillips also had at least one sack; he arguably had a second.

Christian Wilkins had two sacks and tackle for loss.

Jerome Baker stopped De’Von Achane on a screen pass, for no gain.

David Long stood up Tyreek Hill for a short gain, had a big hit on Raheem Mostert for a very short gain and stopped Salvon Ahmed for no gain. Long has had three very impressive practices in a row.

And rookie defensive tackle Brandon Pili stonewalled Mostert for no gain.

Josias Bronson also stopped Mostert for a very short gain.

▪ The Dolphins offense had some good moments but also some miscues.

Among the miscues: A Thompson deep pass to Jaylen Waddle went through his hands.

Thompson overthrew Higgins on another play, though it would have been a tough catch because there wasn’t much room on the sideline.

Kendall Lamm committed a false start penalty.

And Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill had a miscommunication on a deep ball. Tagovailoa threw outside and Hil cut inside. Cam Smith had good coverage.

▪ Among the positives offensively:

In the first days in pads, Achane and Ahmed had a few nice runs (5 to 10 yards) and Raheem Mostert cut back for a 10-plus yard gain.

Myles Gaskin had a long run of at least 30 yards, when he broke free on the perimeter.

Mike White completed a 20-yard pass to Berrios and a 15-yarder to Waddle.

Tagovailoa had several intermediate completions, including to Durham Smythe and another nice throw to Ezukanma.

Tagovailoa completed a 15-to-20 yard pass to Braylon Sanders.

(A few of Tagovailoa’s sideline passes were well defended.)

Thompson had a 25-yard connection with Waddle on a well-throw pass and also hit a diving River Cracraft for 15 yards.

▪ Running back Jeff Wilson Jr. and Keion Crossen remained out with undisclosed injuries. Mike McDaniel said Crossen’s injury isn’t serious, and Wilson’s isn’t believed to be.

Meanwhile, Terron Armstead came off the active/physically unable to perform list. He’s now eligible to practice but didn’t on Monday. He’s expected to be ready for the start of the season.

Nik Needham and Tanner Conner remain on the active/physically unable to perform list but can be activated at any time.

Receiver Freddie Swain returned to practice after missing three sessions.

▪ Brandon Jones and Trill Williams, working their way back from ACL injuries, went back into the facility after stretching.

▪ Mostert wore the orange jersey given to the standout in the previous day’s practice.

▪ Xavien Howard was called for pass interference.
