Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa will have documentary, mini-series via Fox

We’ve been waiting to see more of Tua Tagovailoa since he became a member of the Miami Dolphins — and we’re about to get a whole lot more of him. An exclusive report yesterday by Variety announced that Tagovailoa will be the subject of a documentary, “Tua”, courtesy of Fox Sport Films and that, in addition, a mini-series entitled “Tua Talks” will also be released via the Fox Sports app in the coming weeks.

According to Variety, Tagovailoa’s documentary casts the spotlight on the past 12 months of Tagovailoa’s life:

“The film is part of Fox Sports Films’ MAGNIFY series and will delve into the past year of Tagovailoa’s life. Motivated by family support and critical pundits alike, the former University of Alabama quarterback works to overcome a career-threatening injury ahead of the 2020 NFL Draft. While focusing on the past year’s injury comeback during one the greatest college football careers ever, the documentary also chronicles Tua’s evolution from childhood in Ewa Beach, Hawaii.” — Variety

With names like Steve Young, Trent Dilfer, Nick Saban and Alabama orthopedic doctor Lyle Cain all attached to the project, the documentary figures to paint quite the picture of the trails Tagovailoa has gone through since last September, when he was the presumptive No. 1 prospect in college football and the assumed favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

Neither of those things materialized thanks to the emergence of Joe Burrow and Tagovailoa’s dislocated hip — but the primary beneficiaries on that front are both Tua and the Dolphins. Dolphins fans themselves can now be the beneficiary of Tua’s story courtesy of learning more about and seeing more of their new franchise quarterback. But this story benefits others, too. Variety revealed that Fox Sports Supports, in partnership with Good Sports’ “Restore Play” initiative, will donate funds of $111,111 for flag football equipment and exercise equipment to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in Ewa Beach, Tuscaloosa and Miami.

“The donation, a nod to Tua’s new jersey number 1, honors the three communities that are integral parts of his journey and provides opportunities for its youth to follow in his footsteps,” wrote Variety.
