Dom Amore selected as the 2021 Connecticut Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sports Media Association

Hartford Courant senior writer Dom Amore was selected as the 2021 Connecticut Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sports Media Association on Tuesday.

Amore’s top stories of 2021 included UConn men and women and Hartford men in NCAA Tournaments, the epic Travelers Championship final and the story of UConn baseball player Justin Willis’ harrowing escape from collapsed building in Miami.

This was the six title for Amore, who also earned the award in in 2011, ‘12, ‘13, ‘15, and ‘18.

Amore, 59, joined the Courant in 1988 and has written about high schools, sports media, the Hartford Whalers, New York Giants, Yankees and UConn and covered 10 World Series, eight Super Bowls and NCAA men’s and women’s Final Fours. In 2021, he added a columnist role and was a contributor for MyTV9′s “Inside New York Baseball” weekly TV program. The Connecticut native is also an adjunct professor of journalism at his alma mater, Southern Connecticut State University, and Central Connecticut State University.

“Dom is not only a fantastic writer, he is a mentor for up-and-coming journalists,” Courant sports editor Kellie Love said. “I can always count on him to volunteer for any assignment. He cares deeply about telling the best stories around Connecticut athletes and sports.”

The NSMA will honor its winners and Hall of Fame inductees during the organization’s 62nd awards weekend and national convention, scheduled for June 25-27, 2022, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
