Does anyone remember when Domino's debuted those cool, futuristic delivery cars back in 2015? They each had their own warming oven and could store up to 80 pizzas? No? Well, how about when they piloted a pizza delivery drone in 2016?

You know what, forget about it. Who cares about drones when you can have a robo-car that drives itself?! You heard me. Domino's has announced the release of self-driving pizza delivery cars (as seen above) and we could not be more excited.

Now if this story is already sounding a bit familiar, that's because it's technically the pizza giant's second go at a driverless vehicle (the first was a partnership with Ford in 2016). And while we're not sure what happened with that, this new partnership with robotics company Nuro looks promising.

Within the past year, the startup has already landed a partnership with Kroger, helping them to deliver groceries in both the Scottsdale and Houston areas. In their deal with Domino's, Nuro plans to help tackle an ongoing labor shortage that's left the pizza company 10,000 employees short nationwide.

The tech company will also have the opportunity to debut their new R2 vehicle, which, per Wired, is "made exclusively for carrying goods" and features a key code delivery system. While Nuro is aware that delivering something as hot and fresh as pizza to so many people will be a bit tougher to nail down, they are seemingly up for the challenge.

So! The pilot program is set to begin, like, now in Houston and the company hopes to flawlessly bring it nationwide by 2020, maybe 2021. For those of you who are completely terrified by the idea of a driverless car (I'll admit it's a little creepy), don't worry! Dominos is still allowing people to opt in for human delivery. For now...
