Don Winslow, the Rhode Island native described in literary circles as the "high priest of crime novels," is retiring from the book world to pursue another passion in the run-up to the 2024 election: anti-MAGA politics.
Fierce opponents of Donald Trump, Winslow and his agent, Shane Salerno, created a series of videos for the 2020 election – with an assist from the likes of Jeff Daniels and Bruce Springsteen – that had millions of views.
Heading into election year 2024, Winslow has promised another "series of political videos that hit hard, create change and help win key races across this country.”
He has been documenting his efforts on X, formerly known as Twitter, where he has nearly a million followers.
When the former president was indicted earlier this year for an alleged $130,000 hush-money payoff to an adult-film star, Winslow posted: ““FOR THE 1ST TIME EVER I see a dent in the armor that has shielded Trump for 50 years,”
Winslow has a publishing career spanning more than three decades and 23 novels, including "City on Fire," part one of a trilogy set in Rhode Island, where Winslow grew up the son of a sailor and a librarian.
To quote Vanity Fair: "Winslow [has] emerged as one of the omnipresent faces of so-called Resistance Twitter, where he and other political and cultural figures of note – the George Conways and Kathy Griffins of the world – became prolific purveyors of anti-MAGA social media messaging, tweeting their way into the hearts and minds of Trump-haters the world over."
