Donald Trump Jr. headlines Edgefield fundraiser for McMaster campaign

Dec. 1—Donald Trump Jr. headlined a private campaign fundraiser for S.C. Gov. Henry McMaster in Edgefield this week.

The son of the 45th president spoke at a Tuesday evening reception at a Palmetto Shooting Complex pavilion, posts on social media show.

Attendees said Trump Jr. was well received. Details of his speech could not immediately be learned.

Though Aiken County Republican Party Chairwoman Debbie Epling did not go to the event, she was glad "the Trumps remember how well South Carolina has treated them."

"It's always an honor to have them" in the area, she added.

McMaster endorsed Trump's presidential campaign in 2016 — the first statewide politician to do so, and the beginnings of a close relationship. Trump in March endorsed McMaster's bid for a second full term, describing the incumbent as a "great Governor for the wonderful people of South Carolina."

"He is Strong on the Military, our Vets, Crime, and the Second Amendment," said the former president, who easily won South Carolina in 2016 and 2020. "He has also been a fabulous Chief Executive for his State. Henry has my Complete and Total Endorsement as he runs for re-election!"

McMaster's campaign in early October announced it had raised more than $1 million in the third quarter, pushing its total past $3.5 million. In a statement at the time, McMaster said the figures were a sign of excitement and strength.

"I could not be more excited for what the future holds," he said.

The governor spent Tuesday in and around Aiken, first signing a veteran tuition bill at USC Aiken, then visiting Dave's Grill & Grocery.
