Donald Trump Jr. threatens to help challenge against Rep., Justin Amash, who supports impeachment

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump Jr. threatened to support a primary challenger to Rep. Justin Amash, the lone Republican to call for impeachment inquiries against President Donald Trump.

Trump Jr. retweeted Michigan poll numbers showing Amash trailing challenger Jim Lower by 16 percentage points. He said, "See you soon Justin...I hear Michigan is beautiful during primary season."

Amash responded to Trump with a reference to comments Trump Jr. had made in emails to British publicist Rob Goldstone.

"If it's what you say I love it especially later in the summer," Trump Jr. had written at the time, regarding potentially damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

Amash used that line verbatim to reply to Trump's threat.

Amash, in a May Twitter thread, said the president engaged in "impeachable conduct" by allegedly obstructing justice over the course of the Mueller investigation.

Lower retweeted Trump Jr.'s tweet saying, "Looking forward to seeing you in Michigan again!"

Amash has stoked more talk about a third-party challenge to Trump in 2020. On Wednesday, he told The Hill that “I have no interest in playing spoiler. When I run for something, I run to win."

He was then asked if he'd made a decision on running for president, to which he replied, “I haven’t ruled anything out."
