Former President Donald Trump has raised nearly five times as much money in Oklahoma this year as his next closest rival for the Republican presidential nomination, according to Federal Election Commission filings.
Trump collected $329,615 in Oklahoma in the first six months of 2023, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis received $67,040 from donors in the state. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley raised the third most of the GOP candidates in Oklahoma, with a six-month take of $47,530.
Republican and Democratic presidential candidates combined raised $579,620 in Oklahoma in the first six months of the year.
How much has each presidential candidate raised in Oklahoma?
The latest fundraising reports show Oklahoma City oilman Harold Hamm, a major backer of Trump’s candidacy in 2016 and 2020, now has donated to two of Trump’s rivals: Haley and DeSantis.
Hamm, executive chairman of Continental Resources, gave $6,600 to DeSantis’ campaign account last month, the records show. A Super PAC for DeSantis, a political action committee that operates independently, has not filed a report.

In March, Hamm donated $6,600 to Haley’s campaign and another $21,600 to affiliated PACs. Hamm told the Financial Times last year that he didn’t think Trump should run for president again.
Also donating to DeSantis were Brook Simmons, president of the Petroleum Alliance of Oklahoma; and Trent Shores, who served as U.S. attorney in the Northern District of Oklahoma during the Trump administration.
DeSantis did not officially announce his candidacy until late May; the first donation to his campaign account from Oklahoma was on May 24, while Trump has been raising money in the state all year.
Former Vice President Mike Pence, who announced his candidacy in early June, reported no donations from Oklahoma.
Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, a biotech company founder from Ohio, has raised $24,446 in Oklahoma this year, with $13,200 coming from coal company leader Joe Craft and his wife, Kelly, of Tulsa.
President Joe Biden, who lost every county in Oklahoma in 2020, raised $26,791, with Tulsa oilman George Krumme kicking in $6,600. Democratic candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., collected $11,896, and Marianne Williamson received $4,730.

When is the Oklahoma presidential primary?
Oklahomans will vote in presidential primaries on March 5. The candidate filing period begins Dec. 4.
Biden won Oklahoma’s Democratic presidential primary in 2020, garnering nearly 39% of the vote. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders finished second with 25%.
In April, a poll conducted by Cole Hargrave Snodgrass and Associates, in Oklahoma City, showed that Trump’s favorable rating in Oklahoma had dropped to 49.8%, the lowest ever measured in the firm’s Sooner Survey; it was 16 points below his favorable rating in the state just before the 2020 election. The April poll showed DeSantis within nine points of Trump among Republicans in a hypothetical matchup.
A more recent survey by the firm showed Trump, DeSantis and Haley would beat Biden by at least 30 points. Trump got 65% of the vote in the general election in Oklahoma in 2020, to 32% for Biden.
