Donald Trump is threatening to sue CNN for referring to his false claims about the 2020 election as lies.
“I have notified CNN of my intent to file a lawsuit over their repeated defamatory statements against me,” Mr Trump announced on Wednesday in a statement from his Save America political action committee. ‘I will also be commencing actions against other media outlets who have defamed me and defrauded the public regarding the overwhelming evidence of fraud throughout the 2020 Election. I will never stop fighting for the truth and for the future of our Country!”
The president’s lawyers threatened last week to bring legal action against the cable network in Florida, citing numerous instances where Mr Trump was referred to in CNN reports as a “liar,” or the former president’s false claims about the 2020 election were deemed the “Big Lie.”
“He subjectively believes that the results of the 2020 presidential election turned on fraudulent voting activity in several key states,” Mr Trump’s attorneys argued in a letter to CNN on Thursday.
