Donald Trump's campaign says he has raised more than $7 million since Georgia arrest

Former President Donald Trump’s campaign said it has raised $7.1 million since Thursday, when he was arrested in Georgia on charges he tried to steal the 2020 presidential election.

Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said the campaign raised $4.18 million on Friday alone, marking the its highest-grossing day so far.

Trump was booked Thursday evening at Fulton County Jail in the fourth criminal case he faces as he seeks reelection. The former president is one of 19 defendants in a sweeping indictment that alleges racketeering by a criminal organization that tried to overturn the election results.

Trump spent about 20 minutes at the Georgia jail before he traveled back to his home in Bedminster, New Jersey. He took a booking photo, which showed the former president in a blue suit and red tie. Trump is the first former president to have a booking photo taken.

The former president has long fundraised off of his legal challenges. After his Thursday arrest, Trump posted a photo of his Fulton County booking photo alongside a link to a fundraising page.

Trump's joint fundraising committee brought in a staggering $53.8 million from the start of year to the end of June. But over the same period of time, the committee reported spending $52 million, with tens of millions going toward the legal fees of Trump and his associates, according to campaign reports filed last month.

Trump's Save America leadership PAC reported more than $24 million in expenses over the first six months of the year, with the vast majority of those costs – more than $21 million – going toward legal consulting for Trump and his associates. A PAC, or a political action committee, is typically organized to raise money to elect, or defeat, a political candidate or ballot issue.

In addition to the charges in Georgia, Trump has been indicted three additional times this year. He is facing federal charges over his alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election, as well as accusations he mishandled classified documents. He was indicted on New York state charges tied to hush money payments.
