Giving Tuesday is set aside as a day of giving, to bring people together to improve their communities by promoting and supporting the causes they believe in.

Created in 2012, it’s the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, after the shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday and has evolved into a movement that encourages and inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, work together, and celebrate generosity.

Whether it’s a donation, some of your time, the power of your voice in your local community, helping a neighbor or stranger, showing up for an issue you care about, or sharing some of what you have to those who need help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give.

The Animal Shelter Foundation provides resources to help more homeless animals find loving forever homes, supports community wide spay and neuter efforts to decrease unwanted animals that end up in the shelter, and promotes responsible pet ownership. While many animals are healthy and ready for adoption, some are sick, injured or in need of special care that requires additional financial support.

Providing help with care

Funding by ASF is often the last hope for a homeless animal. The individuals and businesses that partner with ASF make this possible.

Donations received help animals through ASF programs:

  • Free spay/neuter vouchers (includes rabies vaccinations)

  • Specialized vet care

  • Heartworm treatment for dogs

  • Shelter enrichments for shelter animals such as beds, scratching posts, leashes, play yards and toys to improve their time waiting for adoption

  • Low Cost Doggie Manners Classes (no cost online classes during COVID)

  • Foster Care support

  • NEW Tally Spay – ASF high quality, low-cost spay/neuter clinic

ASF is committed to continue to help animals and families caring for pets in our community. We have added programs in partnership with Tallahassee Animal Services (animal shelter) to help keep people and pets together. During the COVID 19 Pandemic ASF provided:

  • extra funding for vet care and heartworm help while some shelter vet services were put on hold

  • expanded the HOPES program offering food and needed items to keep pets in homes

  • assisted with dog walking at the shelter

  • provided cat food for caregivers caring for community cats

  • offered virtual/online doggie manners classes

  • donated to the community pet food pantry

ASF is extremely excited to have opened Tally Spay in September 2021, a new high quality, low cost spay/neuter clinic which will help reduce our communities’ overpopulation of unwanted animals, reduce intakes at local animal shelters and help families in need care for their pets.

How ASF makes a difference

Because community support and donations, thousands of animals have been saved. In fiscal year 2020 alone, ASF directly helped 965 local animals by providing spay/neuter vouchers, heartworm help, lifesaving vet visits and surgeries and low-cost doggie manners classes. Our new High quality low cost spay and neuter clinic, Tally Spay which opened in September 2021, will save thousands more. As of the end of October, the clinic has already performed 300 spay/neuter surgeries.
