What Can Be Done To Help The Homeless?

There is a nationwide crisis of unsheltered homeless people in the United States. Clusters of tent cities line blocks, beach paths, parks, underpasses and street dividers. Major cities across the U.S. are taking aim at the issue by passing new laws that restrict where the homeless can camp, causing a heated debate. Donald Whitehead, the Executive Director of the National Coalition for the Homeless, says he believes one solution to help homeless people is to provide them with permanent housing. In the video above, he shares ideas of how Americans can help end the homeless crisis. “Volunteering is a great idea. Many times, people start to renew that connection with everyday life by having an interaction with a volunteer,” Whitehead says. “Another really important thing is to convince our elected officials that they have to really do something to change this issue from a political standpoint.” Hear more in the video above.
