The city of Rochester is exploring what to do with a 2.8-acre empty lot at the Port of Rochester in Charlotte.

Mayor Malik Evans announced Tuesday that the city is seeking development proposals for the so-called Marina Overlook Site at 4752 Lake Ave.

"This parcel represents an outstanding business opportunity at a prime waterfront location that is surrounded by nearly $30 million in nearby public and private investments," Evans said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon. "We are seeking a partner who has the vision and a plan to build on the progress we have made and enhance the beauty and vitality of the Charlotte community. Few, if any, locations offer the wealth of possibilities that this site offers."

What is being planned for Port of Rochester?

The city says the development of the Port of Rochester has been a 20-year process steered by meticulous planning, intending to turn the area's waterfront resources and historical and cultural roots into a tourist spot.

Members of the Charlotte Community Association and the Community Design Center of Rochester organized a community workshop and visioning event to gather public feedback on the site's redevelopment.

"The Charlotte community continues its enthusiasm and excitement for a new development at 4752 Lake (Ave.)," CCA Board President Tom Bruce said. "We look forward to working together to further establish the Port of Rochester as a year-round community to live, work, and play."
