Donkey Arrives at Foster Home After Glass Fire Destroyed Owner's Sonoma County Property
An animal response team based in Sonoma County, California, said it safely brought Mango the donkey to a foster home after the Glass Fire destroyed his owner’s property, video posted on Thursday, October 8, shows.
The Sonoma Community Animal Response Team (CART) said owner Dan lost his Santa Rosa home and “everything he had worked for over these past 30 years” to the Glass Fire, which has burned nearly 67,500 acres as of Friday.
Sonoma CART said Dan asked the team to check on his four free-roaming donkeys. Volunteers ended up finding Mango and reuniting him with Dan.
This video shows Mango in his new foster home, where he will stay until fire-damaged structures and debris are cleared off Dan’s property. Mango will be joined by “a lot of new goat friends and an alpaca friend too,” Sonoma CART said.
Dan told Sonoma CART that the generosity of everyone helping Mango brings him “to tears.”
Sonoma CART said its team has not found Dan’s other three donkeys but will continue searching for them.
