While Donnie Wahlberg wears several hats—he's both an actor on Blue Bloods and the frontman for New Kids on the Block, to name a couple—it seems like one of his favorite jobs is being a family man.

Donnie and wife Jenny McCarthy recently opened up about being stepparents, and Donnie couldn't stop gushing about how Jenny gets along with his sons Xavier, 26, and Elijah, 18, who he shares with ex-wife Kimberly Fey.

"Besides being the best wife that I could have ever imagined having, she’s also the best stepmom and mother," Donnie told Us Weekly. "She’s a great partner and to simplify it, having someone to build traditions with my children and it being Jenny is probably the thing I’m most grateful for."

The Masked Singer judge also praised Donnie for his close-knit relationship with her and ex-husband John Asher's son, Evan.

“I’m most thankful for his unconditional love,” she said. “Not only for me though, to my son. This Romeo came along and not only swooped me off my feet, but my son and our combined families love each other.”

Together, the two talked about the benefits that come from having a blended family, especially the unique relationships that Donnie and Jenny have with each other’s children.

“We connect with our kids in ways that we haven’t connected with our own,” he said.

The couple’s family focus isn't a secret. On Father’s Day this year, Donnie shared a photo with his sons and wrote a heartfelt message about fatherhood. Jenny posted her own tribute, thanking Donnie for being an “amazing father."

Starting new traditions, especially during the holidays, has been one great way that they’ve brought their families together over the years, Donnie explained.

“Our kids are seeing through both rusty and single parents and the struggles we had early on, now to see us building traditions and building this family together,” Donnie said. “It’s something to truly be grateful."
