Donnie Yen is Now the New 'Fireman' Ambassador for the Hong Kong Fire Services Department

The Hong Kong Fire Services Department is utilizing the star power of international actor Donnie Yen to shine the spotlight on real-life heroes.

Hong Kong’s firefighting agency announced on Thursday that it has chosen the “Ip Man” actor to be its International Image Ambassador, the Straits Times reports. Fire services director Joseph Leung presented the 57-year-old martial arts star with the certificate of appointment during a ceremony at the Fire and Ambulance Services Academy in Hong Kong.

According to Leung, Yen’s heroic image perfectly embodies the courage of the Fire Services personnel.He also pointed out Yen's perfectionist work ethic and professionalism which reflect the department's continued efforts to improve and strive for excellence.

In accepting the appointment, Yen shared how it was an honor for him to be bestowed the role. "(A) real hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself. Honoured to be part of this," the actor wrote on Instagram. He also has plans of recording a song dedicated to the fire department.
