Donovan Heat, Air, & Electric gifts cadet program with new AC after Action News Jax reports on theft

Second Lieutenant Fred Baron’s faith in humanity is restored.

“Oh my gosh, what a surprise. This is just truly a gift from the heart. I really want to thank Mr. Donovan,” he said.

Action News Jax met Baron on Friday at the Civil Air Patrol Composite Squadron in St. Augustine, where Donovan Heat, Air, & Electric installed a brand-new system— free of charge.

It comes after Action News Jax told you weeks ago when the squadron reported the copper wire to its AC system had been stolen— leaving young volunteer cadets working in the heat.

“We were here last Tuesday night; it was 86 degrees inside,” Baron said. “The cadets, these are all kids up to 18 years old.”

Donovan Heat, Air, & Electric told Action News Jax that the company wanted to give back to the cadets, who volunteer and serve their community.

The AC units are not cheap — the one that Donovan Heat, Air, & Electric gave the program is worth more than $10,000.

Baron says the squadron is taking added security measures: the new unit will have a cage installed over it so it can’t be stolen again. The squadron has also installed motion-detector lights, and Baron says the sheriff’s office is out patrolling the area.

Baron says the cadets were going to raise funds for a new AC system until Donovan Heat, Air, & Electric stepped in.

“They came out here, and the graciousness of this individual, this team, to spend their time, their effort, it says volumes of the generosity in this community,” he said.

“Truly, we’re blessed,” Baron said, adding that there’s still a lot of good in the world.
