'Don't eat eggs', protesters urge at Tokyo Olympics

Animal rights group PETA accuses one Japan's biggest egg producers, ISE Foods Inc., of mistreating hens in at least one of their plants by cramming them into small cages - meaning a short and miserable life for the birds.

In a statement made over the phone to Reuters on Tuesday (July 20), ISE Foods Inc. refuted the accusations of mistreatment and said they had received the required certification to provide eggs to Olympic venues but that they had no plans to do so.

PETA published a video back in May which they say was filmed in one of ISE Foods Inc's production sites showing hens crammed into cages, with some showing signs of disease.
