Don't fear 'The Reaper': Dave's Hot Chicken bringing its spicy recipes to Braintree

BRAINTREE − Dave’s Hot Chicken is blazing a trail to Braintree.

The California-based restaurant chain has received approval from the Braintree Planning Board to open its sixth Massachusetts location at 30 Forbes Road, across the street from South Shore Plaza.

The company expects to have the new place up and running this fall and will join Legal Sea Foods and QDOBA Mexican Eats at the site.

Other Dave's locations in the state include Boston, Chelmsford, Newton and Woburn. A location in Framingham opened the end of last month.

The restaurant has more than 120 locations across the country, with the heaviest state concentrations in California (47) and Texas (18).

In addition to Braintree, the company plans to open more than half a dozen new locations throughout the country.

The business also has international locations in Dubai, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, along with four locations in Toronto.

The restaurant was founded by chef and company namesake Dave Kopushyan and his friends Arman Oganesyan and Tommy and Gary Rubenyan in 2017.

As the company’s website tells it, the four friends “scrounged up $900 to put a tiny stand in an East Hollywood parking lot” selling the tenders and sliders that remain the cornerstone of its menu.

Word of mouth and a glowing review in an area food magazine pushed the nascent venture into prominence with its signature blend of flavors that the company’s website said can range from the mild to “The Reaper” at its hottest.
