Don't stay cooped up this winter. Get out and check out these Newport County weekend events

Just because it's winter there's no need to stay cooped up inside the house buried underneath a blanket.

Across Newport County there are events happening regardless of your preferences, so make a plan to head out, brave the weather and enjoy the company of family and friends with everything from live music to art shows and more.

Check out these events taking place this weekend.

Visit a pop-up beer hall

For one night the Taproot tasting room will be transformed into a beer hall with tasting and pint bars, themed brewery bites, live music, and Taproot beer.

Live music will be provided by the four-piece Real Weird Band, known for playing a mix of throwback hits and more.

Admission is free with tastings, pints, wine, and brewery bites available for purchase. Seating is first-come, first-served but RSVPs are appreciated.

Fakes and forgeries

The 32nd annual Fakes and Forgeries exhibition returns to The Spring Bull Gallery, 55 Bellevue Ave., Newport, on Saturday, Jan. 21, continuing through Feb. 26.

The exhibition features "artistic reproductions or creative interpretations of the old and new masters." Prizes are also awarded for Best in Show, Most Authentic, Most Original, Most Whimsical, Honorable Mention, and Judges’ Award.

Enjoy a concert

A pair of intimate concerts on Saturday will provide an opportunity to enjoy some live music.

Singer/songwriter Mary Pierce with perform folk, Celtic and American music with Elias Cardosa from 2-4 p.m., at the St. Matthews Church, 87 Narraganett Ave., Jamestown. Register online at jamestownphilomenialibrary.org or call 401-423-7280.

At the Newport Public Library, the Ocean State Ramblers, a four-piece bluegrass band performing bluegrass standards, bluegrass-flavored folk and country favorites, will be live from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Seating is free and first-come, first-served. For more information visit newportlibraryri.org.

Go ice skating

Head over to the Newport Harbor Island Resort Ice Skating Rink to enjoy some time on the ice.

The rink is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. and skates will be available to rent with a full range of sizes for all ages.
