From Town & Country

Prior to his marriage to Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry was known to be something of a bad boy. While he has generally reformed, a few of the Prince's troublemaker tendencies still remain today, especially when it comes to dress codes.

The new biography of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Finding Freedom, which debuted this week, reveals that Harry has a specific vendetta against formal wear, specifically, neck ties. While a working member of the royal family, Harry especially resented the plethora of events that required fancy clothing.

"Not one for pomp and circumstance, [Prince Harry] never liked certain 'stuffy' engagements, like state banquets at Buckingham Palace, or the overly formal attire they sometimes required," the book notes. "To this day, Harry doesn't like wearing a tie."

Aside from the mandated accessories, Harry had another complaint about these sorts of events—their media coverage. According to Finding Freedom, the Prince spoke about his distaste for reporting focused on clothing or appearances.

"I'm tired of people covering engagements and then going off to write some rubbish about what someone is wearing," Harry reportedly told a friend.

All of these grievances coincided with Harry's general dislike of the fanfare that comes comes alongside being born into royalty. Even prior to stepping back from his royal roles earlier this year, Harry structured his life to try and avoid this "pomp and circumstance," especially when it came to his choice of friends.

The book states, "[Harry] grew up into a young man most at ease around close friends and people not overly impressed with his royalty."

The Prince supposedly wanted to make changes in the royal family, especially with regards to these strict formalities mandated by the palace.

"We need to liven these things up, make them more fun and interesting," Harry once told the Finding Freedom authors, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

However, the Prince clearly never got the chance to make institutional change prior to stepping back from his official duties. But, anyone would say that he has indeed made things "more fun and interesting."
