Dontaie Allen, UK transfer from Pendleton County HS, commits to Western Kentucky

Dontaie Allen, a former Pendleton County High School standout and 2019 Kentucky Mr. Basketball who played the past two seasons for the Kentucky Wildcats after a medical redshirt his freshman year, committed Wednesday morning via Twitter to Western Kentucky.

The tweet from Allen:

Allen averaged 2.2 points per game in 19 games for the Wildcats this past season.

"We're excited to have Dontaie join our program and our family," WKU head coach Rick Stansbury said in a release. "He's a young man that we've known for a long time, and we're glad to have built a relationship with him. Besides being a terrific player and a former Mr. Basketball, we know he comes from a great family. He's coming from a very good program and a lot of things he's learned in the last few years will help him transition to Western Kentucky."

After entering the transfer portal, Allen heard from several Division I teams - including the Cincinnati Bearcats, Xavier Musketeers and Northern Kentucky Norse - according to a report late last month via Twitter from 247Sports' Travis Branham.

From Allen via Twitter last month:

Allen shot 7-of-37 from 3-point range after making 31-of-78 one season earlier, when he averaged 5.4 points per game.

A 6-foot-7 shooting guard, Allen tore his ACL during his senior year at the Falmouth, Kentucky, school - about 34 miles from Cincinnati - just days after scoring his 3,000th career point.

Allen committed to UK in Aug. 2018 after receiving scholarship offers from Xavier, Louisville, Florida, West Virginia and Purdue, among others.
