Donuts Delite opens second location in Rochester

It's more than two years in the making. On Monday afternoon, the second Donuts Delite shop opened in Rochester.

The site of the former Dog House bar was overhauled and revamped to become Donuts Delite West, 674 W. Ridge Road.

The 3,000-square-foot shop was initially expected to open in the summer of 2020 but was delayed repeatedly due to the pandemic, including supply chain issues and delays in obtaining equipment for the new shop, said franchisee Nick Semeraro, who also owns and operates the Donuts Delite location on Culver Road.

The West Ridge Road shop, most recently a pub, once served as a doughnut shop.

The original owners of Donuts Delite were Jim Malley and Murray Simpson. They split after a year and Simpson for a time opened his own shop, Simpson's Donuts, at 674 W. Ridge Road.

“I love Rochester history and it’s so great that we are able to turn the famous Dog House Bar back to its original use as a donut shop,” said Salvatore Fantauzzo, owner of Salvatore's Pizza, who is the franchisor of the business. He bought Donuts Delite on Culver in 2009, several years after Malley closed up shop after nearly 50 years in business.

The Culver Road eatery, which reopened in 2010, is now part pizzeria and part doughnut shop.

Donuts Delite West will operate the same manner, serving doughnuts and other baked goods as well as Salvatore's full pizzeria menu. The lower level of the West Ridge Road shop will serve as a doughnut factory.

"It is always a great day when we can celebrate the opening of another small business,” Rochester Mayor Malik Evans said. "Small businesses are our economic engines and an important source of jobs within the city. And as more businesses invest and succeed in Rochester, others will see potential for their own success."

The new eatery will operate from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The shop is expected to employ about 40 people.
